Copy with Reference Improvement

As part of the Thomson Reuters global branding strategy, we changed the name of WestlaweCarswell to Westlaw Canada. We’re excited to make this change, in order to better connect our service with Westlaw, the leading name in legal research worldwide.

The Carswell team will continue to build the product with the needs of Canadian practitioners foremost in mind. There are no changes to content or functionality, or to how the product is designed and maintained. Your existing account relationships and support will remain unchanged.

As of June 13th, the new web address to log in to the service will be: http://canada.westlaw.com
The new web address for the product information site will be:
www.westlawcanada.com
In addition, the web addresses you are using today will continue to work indefinitely.

As of February 2009, the Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines will be fully integrated and searchable on FamilySource.

Although many Law Reviews and Journals are available through the Custom Search Template, previously, only Carswell Law Report articles were available from the Publication Drop-down menu. We added the publication names of all available journals and law reviews to the Publication Drop-down menu to make your searching easier.

We introduced hotlinks into ICLL result lists. These links within ICLL search results will allow you to access pertinent documentation quickly and efficiently without having to engage in multiple document searches.

Previously, the Copy with Reference button only pulled in the title of the document being referenced.  This was not sufficient to identify the originating document when you made use of this functionality. Now, we include not only the title field, but also the citation into the copy with reference function.

This enhancement will be rolling out across Westlaw Canada in stages, beginning with Commentary now, and continuing on to Legislation and Caselaw in the upcoming months.

The Canadian Journal of Law and Technology provides a forum for matters of interest to technology lawyers and scholars. Comment pieces will typically address a particular focused issue of current concern. Topics include, but are not limited to: intellectual property, privacy, electronic commerce, regulatory issues, criminal, and scholarly consideration of significant issues in technology law, and shorter pieces that explore issues of practical concern or application. The Canadian Journal of Law and Technology (CJLT) is published twice per year as a peer-reviewed journal.

We will be changing the Cases Search Template to allow you to search all case law or to limit your search to only Court decisions or only Tribunal Decisions.

This search function will be added via a drop-down menu at the bottom of the Cases Search Template, in the Limit Results (optional) section. The menu items will be labeled “All Canadian Decisions”; “Court Decisions Only”; and “Tribunal Decisions Only”.
