Westlaw Canada case law results lists will soon indicate how many times each decision has been cited by the Courts. Citation frequency notes will appear both in search and KeyCite® Canada result lists.
This enhancement will be an especially useful tool when you are faced with a large number of hits in a search result or a large number of KeyCite citing references for a case or legislative provision. New functionality will enable you to limit your search and KeyCite results using this criterion. Used on its own or in combination with other ways of limiting your results, it will provide a new strategy for identifying cases that have the most precedential value.
ResultsPlus is a powerful new search tool that adds a new dimension to your case law research by suggesting related analysis from the Canadian Encyclopedic Digest or facta from Westlaw Canada Litigator that is relevant to your research.
Using cutting-edge artificial intelligence tools, ResultsPlus will provide information in two contexts:
• When you run a case law search on Westlaw, ResultsPlus suggests CED or factum documents relevant to your search
• When you are viewing a particular case, ResultsPlus suggests CED or factum documents relevant to the issues discussed in that case
This new search tool, which will be available in the spring, will not only make your research more efficient but also help you ensure that it is comprehensive.
We will be adding two search aids to help ensure the quality of your searches and save time.
1. “Add Related Terms” will suggest commonly used synonyms or related concepts to the terms you have entered, so that you can add one or more of them to your search.
- “Did you Mean” will detect obvious spelling errors in your search string, and prompt you to redo your search.
