An Easy Way to Identify “Stub” Documents
|
Westlaw® Canada case law results lists now indicate how many times each decision has been cited by the Courts. Citation frequency notes appear both in search and KeyCite® Canada result lists.
This enhancement is an especially useful tool when you are faced with a large number of hits in a search result or a large number of KeyCite citing references for a case or legislative provision. New functionality enables you to limit your search and KeyCite results using this criterion, and, used on its own or in combination with other ways of limiting your results, provides a new strategy for identifying cases that have the most precedential value. New Litigator Quantum links will allow you to access the search templates in a seamless manner. You will not be required to navigate to the Litigator page to use these services. More
ResultsPlus will enrich your case law research by suggesting relevant analytical material along with your case law results. Using cutting-edge artificial intelligence tools, ResultsPlus will provide information in two contexts. Click here for details
“Related Terms” will allow you to easily add in any search terms that you may have forgotten.
“Did you Mean” will allow you to correct any spelling errors “on the fly” – without having to navigate back and forth through your search screens.
With the implementation of the new British Columbia Supreme Court Rules on July 1, 2010, Westlaw® Canada is pleased to provide the British Columbia Rules concordance table for your use. More
At the request of customers, we are adding specific wording to result list entries that clearly identifies documents for which we do not have full text.
For many decisions that are older or otherwise outside its scope of coverage, Westlaw Canada does not have the full text of the decision, but does have KeyCite® results or Abridgment Digests for it. In order to facilitate finding or keyciting these decisions by name, we have created placeholders for these “stub documents” and included them in our case law collection.
Although the stub documents themselves have explanatory language on them, they are not easily distinguishable on result lists from full text decisions. Effective this month, a note stating that “This document is not available on Westlaw Canada” will appear on each stub entry in any search result list.
Entries in our case and legislation search result lists that represent stub documents will be indicated as such in the result list itself, as in the example below:
6137. Chrysler Credit Canada Ltd. v. Adorable – Pacific Rim Boarding Kennels for Dogs & Cats Ltd.; 1992 WL 1322735; Alta. Q.B.; October 14, 1992; Docket: Doc. Edmonton 9003-17185; (Full-text is not available on Westlaw Canada) |
