On May 3rd, six new Court Document Collections, with Pleadings, Motions, and Facta will be available for the following topical areas:
- Construction Law
- Estates & Trusts
- Environmental Law
- Intellectual Property
- Municipal & Planning
- Pensions & Benefits
Each collection will include court filings from the significant decisions of the last decade, as determined by specialists in each field of law. Our flexible pricing allows you to add any of these to your current subscription.
As part of the Thomson Reuters global branding strategy, we will be changing the name of WestlaweCARSWELL to Westlaw Canada. We're excited to make this change, in order to better connect our service with Westlaw, the leading name in legal research worldwide.
The Carswell team will continue to build the product with the needs of Canadian practitioners foremost in mind. There will be no changes to content or functionality, or to how the product is designed and maintained. Your existing account relationships and support also will remain unchanged.
Within the service and in product communications, you will start to see the WestlaweCARSWELL name and logo changed starting in June. Here is what the new name will look like within the service:

To further enhance the searching experience for Litigator court document users, on May 3rd, an improved left-hand panel will feature checkboxes for database-selection, allowing more space in the right-hand panel for the enhanced search template. The search template for the pleadings and facta galleries will feature checkbox subject-selection functionality and a topic-tree to allow the ability to search by subtopic/issue in certain subject areas. You will also be able to tell, at a glance, whether a quantum digest is from a case for which we have acquired the court documents. The court document icon will now be found in the quantum digest result lists and document headers. View
A change has been made to the KeyCite Canada history display. No matter how you link to KeyCite history for a decision, you will always see the same, intuitive display. More
Going forward, whether you access KeyCite History by clicking on a red or yellow flag, or by clicking on the KeyCite history link in the left frame of a decision, you will see the same display, consisting of the full direct history of the decision, and any negative or cautionary treatment.
In conjunction with the launch of the Fourth Edition of the Canadian Encyclopedic Digest (CED), two major online enhancements will be introduced this spring.
- The CED will be “rechunked” to make documents into larger, more logical units with topical headings as opposed to individual paragraphs, eliminating the need to click from paragraph to paragraph.
- Each new CED document will include a link to the equivalent section in The Canadian Abridgment classification, making it easy to follow up your CED research by canvassing the relevant case law.
These enhancements will make it easier to use both the CED and The Canadian Abridgment together when beginning your research on WestlaweCarswell. More
Coming this month, three new customized Regulatory Materials search templates will be added to the SecuritiesSource service.
The new templates are as follows:
- Search Securities Commissions
- Search Exchanges
- Search Self-Regulatory Organizations
These focused templates will help you to obtain specific Regulatory Materials information more quickly and efficiently. More
In response to customer requests, check boxes now appear to the left of every history or citing reference entry in your Keycite result list, allowing you to select particular items on the list to print, save or download.

Citation links within the ICLL search results lists will let you access pertinent articles quickly and efficiently without having to open each ICLL document individually, saving you time and effort.
Direct links will be available in both the full-screen result list and in the left-pane result lists.
The Cases Search Templates on all Source tabs will have an option to allow you to limit your search to only Court decisions, or only Tribunal Decisions, if you wish.
This search function will be added via a drop-down menu in the Limit Results (optional) section. The default will remain “All Canadian decisions” |
